The quarry lies above 1,500 metres, between the municipalities of Hône and Pontboset. This stone has shaped the region: it roofs the Fort of Bard and several Aosta Valley castles, including Fénis, Introd and Passerin d'Entrèves in Châtillon. According to company sources, it won a gold medal at the 1913 Milan exhibition.

Stone once came down a mule track on hand-guided sledges, mostly as lose, the slabs typical of the region's roofs and paving. A first road was built in 1890 and surfaced in 1997.
